Hong Kong, 20 Dec 2005 — LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – The international law firm Shearman & Sterling LLP has elected fourteen lawyers to partnership across its worldwide platform. They practice in nine offices — Frankfurt, Hong Kong, London, Mannheim, Munich, New York, Paris, Rome and San Francisco. The elections are effective January 1, 2006.

The new partners practice in the antitrust, asset management, bank finance, capital markets, international arbitration, mergers & acquisitions, project development and finance and tax areas.

The following lawyers were elected partner:
Frankfurt Johannes A. Frey, who practices in the firm’s International Tax group, received a Dr. jur. from Ludwig-Maximilians Universität, Munich, in 1998, and an LL.M. from Georgetown University Law Center in 1997.

Hong Kong Andrew D. Ruff, who practices in the firm’s Project Development & Finance group, received a J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1994, an M.A. from Harvard University in 1991, and a B.A. from Harvard College in 1988.

Paul Strecker, who practices in the firm’s Mergers & Acquisitions group, received a J.D. from New York University School of Law in 1997, and a B.A. from Oxford University, St. Peter’s College, in 1994.

London Patrick Clancy, who practices in the firm’s Bank Finance group, received a M.Sc. in Finance from London Business School in 2000, completed the Legal Practice Course/Law Society Finals at the College of Law, Guildford, in 1988, and received an M.A. from Oxford University, Worcester College, in 1986.

George Karafotias, who practices in the firm’s Mergers & Acquisitions group, received an LL.M. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1998, an Honours Degree of Bachelor of Laws from the University of Adelaide Law School in 1997, a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Adelaide Law School in 1995, and a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Adelaide Business School in 1994.

Mannheim Stephan Harbarth, who practices in the firm’s Mergers & Acquisitions group, received an LL.M. from Yale University Law School in 2000, and a Dr. jur. from the University of Heidelberg in 1998.

Munich Astrid S. Krüeger, who practices in the firm’s Mergers & Acquisitions group, received a Dr. jur. from the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität, Heidelberg, in 1997.

New York Azam H. Aziz, who practices in the firm’s Asset Management group, received a J.D. from Hofstra University School of Law in 1996, and a B.E. from the State University of New York at Stonybrook in 1992.

Beau W. Buffier, who practices in the firm’s Antitrust group, received an LL.M. from New York University School of Law in 2000, an LL.B. from the University of Sydney Faculty of Law in 1998, and a B.A. from the University of Sydney in 1996.

Scott D. Petepiece, who practices in the firm’s Mergers & Acquisitions group, received an LL.B. from the University of Western Ontario in 1993, and a B.A. from the University of Western Ontario in 1990. He has also completed Graduate Studies in Broadcast Journalism at Syracuse University, S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.

Paris Yas Banifatemi, who practices in the firm’s International Arbitration group, received a Ph.D. in International Law from the Université Panthéon-Assas (Paris II) in 1997, an LL.M. from Harvard Law School in 1997, a D.E.A. in International Law from the Université Panthéon-Assas (Paris II) in 1990, a Diploma in International Law from the Institut des Hautes Etudes Internationales (Paris-II) in 1990, and a Maîtrise in International Law and European Law from the Université Panthéon-Assas (Paris II) in 1989.

Mathieu Remy, who practices in the firm’s Mergers & Acquisitions group, received an LL.M. from Columbia University School of Law in 1997, a Magistère de Juriste d’Affaires, a Diplôme de Juriste Conseil d’Enterprise (DJCE), and a DESS de Droit des Affaires et de Fiscalité from the Université Panthéon-Assas (Paris II) in 1994.
