July – LAWFUEL – Law News Network – International legal practice Norton Rose has acted for Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) as senior debt provider on the Addiewell Prison Project in West Lothian, Scotland.

Addiewell Prison limited, a consortium consisting of Interserve, Sodexho and Royal Bank Project Investments is sponsoring the project. Senior Debt for the scheme is being provided by RBS.

The project involves the design, construction, financing and operation of a 700-prisoner place prison, with facility for a further 96 prisoner places. The prison will be built by Interserve, the services, maintenance and building group, and will be operated by UKDS (UK Detention Services Ltd), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sodexho Alliance SA. The same sponsor group is already responsible for the construction and operation of Bronzefield and Peterborough PFI prisons in England on which Norton Rose advised RBS.

The PPP project is the first UK prison project to be governed by the SOPC3 guidance.

The Norton Rose team was led by David Coulter on finance documents and Jonathan Brufal on project documents, assisted by Mark Dennison and Monica Oen.
