ATLANTA (October 9) – Kilpatrick Stockton today announced that the jury in the high-profile case of Verizon v Cox Communications, Docket no 1:08-cv-157, returned a verdict in favor of defendant Cox Communications.
Verizon had contended that Cox Communications’ Digital Telephone Service violated six patents concerning voice- over Internet telephone service and sought over $400 million in damages. The jury found that Cox did not infringe any of the patents and also found that two of the patents were invalid.
“We are obviously very pleased with the jury’s verdict, and we are especially pleased that the jury carefully considered the evidence and invalidated the very patents that Vonage was found to infringe” said Bill Boice, Kilpatrick Stockton partner who along with Kilpatrick Stockton partner Mitch Stockwell were co-lead counsel for Cox Communications. “It is gratifying to know that our client can continue providing its award-winning, high-quality telecommunications services to its more than 3 million residential and business customers.”
