LAWFUEL – Press Release Service – The Chairman of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), Mr Jeffrey Lucy, today announced the establishment of ASIC’s Business Consultative Panel.
The Panel will provide a forum for more effective and open dialogue between ASIC and the
business community on current and emerging market issues and risks.
The Panel will have two Chapters based in Sydney and Melbourne, chaired by Mr Lucy and
ASIC’s Deputy Chairman, Mr Jeremy Cooper, respectively and each chapter is expected to meet
three times per year. In addition, ASIC continues to meet regularly with members of the
business community right around Australia.
The Panel participants are senior business leaders and reflect a wide cross section of the
Australian business community.
The participants are:
Sydney:
• Mr David Gonski, Chairman, Investec
• Ms Diane Grady, Non-Executive Director, Woolworths
• Mr David Morgan, CEO, Westpac
• Mr Robert Savage, Chairman, Perpetual Trustees Australia, and
• Mr Les Taylor, Chairman, Freshtel Holdings.
Melbourne:
• Mr Kevin Bailey, Founder, The Money Managers
• Mr Jeremy Duffield, Managing Director, Vanguard Investments Australia
• Ms Paula Dwyer, Non-Executive Director
• Mr Lee IaFrate, Executive Chairman, Armytage Private
• Mr Geof Stapledon, Managing Director, ISS Australia, and
• Ms Karen Wood, Company Secretary, BHP Billiton.
‘Our first meetings, held recently in Sydney and Melbourne, were extremely encouraging and
the participants embraced the opportunity to speak openly about matters of concern and mutual
interest,’ Mr Lucy said.
‘I have no doubt that ASIC will benefit from the input of these senior people. Obviously we are
all careful to ensure that our areas of dialogue are confined to matters where external comment
and input is appropriate.
‘This initiative demonstrates our ongoing commitment to better regulation through close interaction with important stakeholders and confirming our goal of being a strong, fair and progressive regulator. ‘Importantly, it builds on ASIC’s already well established consultation programs which include our Consumer Advisory Panel and the Chairs Committee of the leading accounting firms, to name just two.’ For further information contact: Angela Friend ASIC Media Unit Telephone: 03 9280 3338 Mobile: 0412 058 800
