LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – O’Melveny partner Jim Walden will be speaking at the 20th Annual National Institute on White Collar Crime, to be held March 2 – 3 in San Francisco. Sponsored by the American Bar Association Criminal Justice Section and the ABA Center for Continuing Legal Education, this National Institute brings together judges, federal, state, and local prosecutors, other law enforcement officials, defense attorneys, corporate in-house counsel, and members of the academic community to discuss timely issues of concern to white collar practitioners.

Substantive topics, among others, include criminal antitrust enforcement, money laundering, health care fraud and abuse, and securities fraud.

Walden will be a panelist on “Recent Developments in Antitrust Enforcement.” This session will address the DOJ’s growing arsenal of weapons in the fight against international cartels, including: a new maximum fine of $100 million against corporations, new Sentencing Guidelines, longer jail sentences for a greater number of individuals, more obstruction of justice prosecutions, the threat of extradition from foreign countries, and coordinated investigations by multiple foreign jurisdictions whose own enforcement tools, including amnesty programs, are being strengthened and expanded.
