LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – Well known restructuring lawyer Nick Segal is to join international law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer as a partner in the firm’s global restructuring and insolvency (R&I) group in mid-August, based in London.

‘We are very excited to have a lawyer of Nick’s standing join our R&I practice. It is rare that a lawyer of Nick’s calibre becomes available and his extensive international experience, particularly in working for creditors, will complement our existing restructuring practice,’ said Konstantin Mettenheimer, co-senior partner, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

Sandy Shandro, head of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer’s R&I group, commented, ‘We have a very strong international R&I practice, which will be further enhanced with Nick’s extensive cross-border experience. Nick is comfortable dealing with the multijurisdictional aspects of any transaction and this is extremely important to our clients and in our marketplace. We are delighted to have him on board.

‘The timing of Nick’s arrival is also right as the business cycle is at a point where there is likely to be an upturn in restructuring work in the not too distant future,’ Sandy Shandro continued. ‘Our existing strong local bankruptcy expertise in the world’s major financial centres, combined with Nick’s proven experience of acting for creditors and his understanding of the methodology and approach of US investors, puts us in an excellent position to offer our clients the very best mix of expertise in this area,’ he added.
