Welch has extensive global experience in corporate, finance and securities transactions, having worked for firms in New York, Los Angeles, Berlin, London and Hong Kong in the course of his 26 year legal career.
“Jack has a wealth of experience that can be applied to a wide range of matters on which the firm advises our clients, and he brings many complementary strands to our corporate ambitions in Los Angeles and globally,” said John Clair, Office Managing Partner of Latham & Watkins in Los Angeles. “He will serve on the Finance Department, Corporate Department and Firm Opinion Committees, which advise on legal opinion matters across the firm.”
Thomas Dobson, Chair of the Los Angeles Corporate Department, said Welch’s client work will apply particular expertise in capital markets and loan documentation and structuring. “Jack’s experience further supports our interdisciplinary approach to corporate problem solving employing the talents of both our Corporate and Finance teams in complex matters. We will regularly tap into Jack’s knowledge of real property and real property finance, project finance, the margin regulations, the Investment Company Act and Investment Advisors Act, the Uniform Commercial Code and secured transactions and bank regulatory matters,” said Dobson.

Welch has worked previously as of counsel at Allen & Overy in New York and London. He began his career as an associate with Shearman & Sterling in New York and Los Angeles. Welch is a graduate of Harvard College (A.B.), Oxford University (B.A. and M.A. by decree) and the University of Texas (J.D.). He is qualified in California, New York, Texas and Berlin, Germany.
