March 5, 2013 (New York) – LawFuel.com – The law firm of Edwards Wildman Palmer LLP is pleased to announce that Martin J. Nilsen has rejoined the firm as counsel in the firm’s Insurance and Reinsurance Department in New York City. Nilsen has more than 35 years of experience in the insurance and financial services fields.
Nilsen represents the insurance and financial services industries in corporate, securities, regulatory and commercial matters. He returns to the firm from Arch Insurance Group, where he served as senior vice president, secretary and general counsel for 10 years before becoming a senior advisor to management in March of last year. During his time at Arch Insurance, he oversaw and advised the company on corporate strategy, corporate governance, government affairs and regulatory matters, as well as heading the legal, regulatory and compliance groups. Nilsen will continue to serve as chairman for the US insurance company boards and investment and finance committees, and has joined the Canadian board as its chairman.
Before joining Arch, Nilsen was the partner in charge of the New York City office of Edwards & Angell, one of the legacy firms that now comprise Edwards Wildman. At Edwards & Angell, he was a partner in the Insurance and Reinsurance Department, handling a wide range of corporate, commercial and regulatory matters for insurance and non-insurance clients.
“Martin’s impressive experience in regulatory and compliance matters, particularly his substantial contact with regulatory agencies, will be invaluable to both our insurance and non-insurance clients at a very critical time for these industries,” said Alan J. Levin, the chairman of Edwards Wildman and co-head of the firm’s Insurance and Reinsurance Department. “We are thrilled he has returned to the firm.”
Nilsen earned his undergraduate degree (magna cum laude) from St. John’s University and his law degree from St. John’s University School of Law. He is admitted to practice in New York.
