MIAMI – January 17, 2006 – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – Holland & Knight is pleased to announce that Braulio Baez, former chairman of the Florida Public Service Commission (FPSC), has joined the firm’s Public Policy & Regulation Practice as Senior Counsel. Baez, who will be based in the firm’s Miami office, brings to the firm a wealth of experience in key areas of Government Law, including public utility, energy, telecommunications and water law matters.
Baez has served as an FPSC commissioner since 2000, and as chairman for the past two years. In these roles, he assisted in regulating Florida’s electric and gas utilities, telecommunications companies, and water and wastewater utilities. Prior to serving on the FPSC, he was an attorney in Miami with a statewide practice representing municipal and county governments in telecommunications, cable franchising and other regulatory matters.
“Braulio Baez is an outstanding addition to Holland & Knight’s Public Policy & Regulation Practice,” said Bruce May, head of the firm’s Energy Team and a partner in the Tallahassee office. “His experience as chair of the FPSC has given him a thorough understanding of the pressing telecommunications, energy and public utility infrastructure issues that confront our clients here in Florida. That experience, coupled with his extensive knowledge of complex public utility and telecommunications matters throughout the country, will enhance our firm’s ability to provide excellent and efficient legal services to our clients nationwide.”
Baez has been an active member of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners and has served as president of the Southeastern Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners. He was named to the State Regulatory Advisory Council to the FCC Federal Advisory Committee on Diversity in the Digital Age. He is a member of the Florida Bar, a graduate of Leadership Florida and a past director of the Hispanic Bar Association, 2nd Judicial District.
A native of South Florida, Baez received his undergraduate degree from Florida International University in 1988, and his J.D. from Nova University, Shepard Broad Law Center, in 1993.
