Mr. Shashy served as Chief Counsel of the Internal Revenue Service from February 1990 to January 1993. As Chief Counsel, a presidential appointment requiring Senate confirmation, he presided over the IRS? involvement in tax regulations, rulings and controversy matters.
Before Mr. Shashys government service as IRS Chief Counsel, he practiced law in New York City and Dallas and served as an adjunct professor in the graduate tax law programs at New York University and at Southern Methodist University. From 1993 until joining KPMG LLP in 2000, he practiced law in Washington D.C. His practice has included tax controversy and transactional tax planning for large multinational corporate clients in mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and finance contexts.

Mr. Shashy received his J.D. from the University of Florida School of Law in 1973 and his LL.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law in 1975.
