Haunting photos by photographer Jono Rotman provide a look at the Mongrel Mob gang in New Zealand. After co-ordinating with the gang, Rotman met mob members, gaining unprecedented access. These portraits were taken from inside their homes from 2008 until 2014.
The portraits debuterd in the City Gallery, Wellington in 2014 and although criticised for allegedly glorifying gang culture, the photographer says they were criticised because they appeared to picture the subjects in a respectful way rather than out of a “gritty documentary” or in police mug shots.
