Opens Second East Coast Office In Past Six Months

Chicago – 20 January 2005 – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – Foley & Lardner LLP today announced that the attorneys and staff of the Boston office of Epstein, Becker & Green, P.C. will join the Firm effective February 1 subject to final agreement with the management of Epstein, Becker & Green. The establishment of an office in Boston is part of the Firm’s strategic plan to increase its presence in key markets consistent with its national practice strategy.

The 38 attorneys of Epstein Becker & Green’s Boston office will join Foley’s Business Law, Litigation and Intellectual Property Departments, and will strengthen the Firm’s national private equity and commercial litigation practices, as well as its Life Sciences and Technology Industry Teams. The Firm now has a presence in all five major U.S. life sciences markets – Boston, Washington, D.C., Silicon Valley, San Diego/Del Mar and Madison, WI.

“The Boston market has long been one of the Firm’s expansion priorities because of its strategic importance to our national and international life sciences and health care clients and to our private equity/venture capital practice, and we waited patiently to identify the right opportunity to create a presence there,” said Ralf Boer, chairman and CEO of Foley & Lardner. “We have worked closely with the management team at Epstein, Becker & Green to ensure that this transaction meets the strategic goals of both firms and is a positive move for all parties.”

“Joining Foley, a firm with a strong national platform in areas that align with our core practices, is an opportunity that provides tremendous benefits to our attorneys,” said Susan E. Pravda, managing partner of the Boston office.

The addition of the new attorneys is of strategic importance because they bring enhanced private equity financing and intellectual property expertise to Foley’s Life Sciences and Technology Industry Teams. These teams provide a range of service offerings, enabling the Firm to take a comprehensive view of the industry and bring together the right practitioners and competencies to address each client’s needs. Epstein, Becker & Green attorneys also will join Foley’s labor and employment, real estate, tax and family law practices.

Pravda will serve as the office managing partner of the new Foley Boston office and as co-chair of Foley’s Technology Practice, and Gabor Garai will chair Foley’s Private Equity Practice and co-chair its Life Sciences Industry Team. The office will continue to be located in the Back Bay area of Boston at 111 Huntington Ave. Expansion into Boston follows expansion in 2004 into the strategic New York City and Silicon Valley markets and is consistent with Foley’s disciplined and focused strategic expansion and growth plans.

Foley & Lardner expects to expand the Boston office by adding attorneys in strategic practice areas such as intellectual property, corporate and private equity, health care and litigation. The Firm will continue to implement its disciplined growth strategy that also includes future expansion to the Miami market.
