PARIS, September 12, 2005— LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP continues its expansion in Europe with the addition of a prominent corporate lawyer, Philippe Rincazaux, to its office in Paris.
Rincazaux focuses on EU and French antitrust and competition law and litigation. He is a former partner at Coudert Brothers in Paris, where he headed the competition law department of the firm’s Paris office. Before joining Coudert in 2002, he was the head of the European and French competition law department of Thomas & Associes Deloitte & Touche.
“Philippe’s expertise in antitrust and competition law in France complements the firm’s capabilities in the United States, the United Kingdom and Italy,” said Ralph Baxter, Orrick’s chairman and CEO. “We are now well-positioned to advise European and U.S. clients in complex, cross-border transactions and to continue growing internationally.”
Rincazaux is the second corporate partner to join the Paris office and the second European competition expert to join the firm in the past four months. George Yates, a U.S. lawyer and French avocat with 30 years of experience in cross-border transactions, joined the Paris office in May. One week later, Alastair Gorrie, who focuses on EU and UK competition law as well as EU single-market law, joined the London office. Both Yates and Gorrie joined Orrick from Coudert.
“I am very pleased to join Orrick where I have the support of my former Coudert colleagues as well as the resources of Orrick’s strong international network and corporate practice,” said Rincazaux.
“Philippe is a strong addition to our Paris office who rounds out our newly formed European antitrust practice and helps enhance the services we offer to European and U.S. clients,” added David Syed, Orrick’s managing partner for Europe.
The addition of Rincazaux is part of a firm-wide initiative to expand Orrick’s corporate practice. Most recently, the firm announced, in a joint press release with Coudert Brothers, a preliminary agreement for nine partners from Coudert’s corporate-focused China practice to join Orrick, which plans to open new offices in Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai. Earlier in the year, Orrick added four corporate partners in London, two corporate partners in Moscow, and nine corporate partners in Silicon Valley. Over the last 12 months, Orrick has added prominent corporate lawyers in London, Paris, Moscow, New York, and San Francisco, as well as Tokyo, where eight new corporate lawyers increased that office’s team by more than 40 percent.
