PHILADELPHIA, April 6 – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network — The law firm of Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP, a leader in national and regional management of mass tort and class action litigation with offices on the East and West Coasts, is opening its newest office in Chicago. Drinker Biddle also adds two veteran litigators with prominent national products liability and class action practices to anchor the Chicago office. A total of seven lawyers will be part of the initial practice in Chicago.

According to Alfred W. Putnam, Jr., chairman of Drinker Biddle, the opening of the Chicago office provides an excellent platform for continued growth by expanding the firm’s core practices in existing markets.

“Drinker Biddle has been in a growth mode since 2001,” Mr. Putnam said. “During this time we have considerably increased our national presence in products liability and class action defense by hiring seasoned lawyers and establishing new offices in both Los Angeles and San Francisco. These moves have complemented the strength of our East Coast practice. Our expansion into the Midwest ensures that our clients now have immediate access in this region to lawyers highly experienced in handling national complex litigation.”

Thomas M. Campion, a leading Drinker Biddle trial lawyer based on the East Coast, said that he and the firm’s other partners, including prominent products liability lawyers Thomas M. Moore, Charles F. Preuss and Susan M. Sharko, are pleased that John Dames and David Sudzus have chosen to join Drinker Biddle.

“Their wealth of experience will enhance the capabilities and depth of our products liability and other complex litigation practice on behalf of clients across the nation, adding capacity with the same high standards of quality that our clients expect and deserve.”

Partner John Dames is one of the two veteran litigators in the Chicago office. He joins the firm from Kelley Drye & Warren LLP, where he was a member of the Executive Committee and a partner in the Products Liability and Commercial Litigation Practice Groups. His practice focuses on products liability and toxic tort litigation.

“I am delighted to be joining Drinker Biddle,” commented Mr. Dames. “The resources and national reach of the firm will allow us to expand our practice and service to clients both substantively and geographically.”

Partner David B. Sudzus, the other veteran litigator in the Chicago office, also joins the firm from Kelley Drye & Warren LLP, where he was a member of the Products Liability and Commercial Litigation Practice Groups. His practice focuses on products liability, medical device, complex and multi- district litigation.

According to Mr. Sudzus, joining Drinker Biddle is a natural next step for both lawyers in achieving some significant professional objectives. “We believe our practice is a perfect fit with the high quality of Drinker Biddle’s approach to complex products liability and other complex litigation in this demanding marketplace,” said Mr. Sudzus. “It’s especially gratifying to join a litigation team that is already world-class.”

The opening of the Chicago office, located at 115 South LaSalle Street, brings the number of Drinker Biddle offices in the U.S. to ten. A number of associates and staff from Kelley Drye & Warren LLP are also expected to join Drinker Biddle’s new office.
