TORONTO, March 9 2005 – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – On March 6, 2005, an investor from Chicago,
Illinois sued Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP, its former Managing Partner,
Gregory J. Peebles and their former client, Robert Hryniak, for losses arising
out of a fraudulent investment scheme. The suit alleges that Cassels Brock and
Mr. Peebles were used by their client, Robert Hryniak, to add an air of
credibility and plausibility to a fraudulent investment scheme that has
resulted in a loss of millions of dollars to a number of investors across
North America. As part of the scheme, the investor met with Mr. Peebles, at
the offices of Cassels Brock, where it was explained that the investment was a
safe and secure investment with a high yield of return.
Law enforcement authorities have been notified about the scheme. Charges
have already been laid by the RCMP against a number of people involved,
including Robert Cranston of London, Ontario, a participant in the scheme.
