Washington, DC and London, October 20, 2004 LAWFUEL – Law, legal, attorney, law firm news — The international law firm of Shaw Pittman LLP celebrates its strategic alliance with one of Taiwan’s premier firms, Chien Yeh Law Offices, and announces the grand opening of the firm’s new Taipei office.
“We are delighted to announce a strategic alliance with one of Taiwan’s finest corporate law firms, Chien Yeh Law Offices. Shaw Pittman’s strategy is to become the world’s leading technology law firm and we are excited to expand our practice into Taiwan, one of the most important emerging technology markets in the world. We’re here today because we believe the future of technology in Asia starts in Taiwan, where already, the vast majority of the world’s laptop and desktop computers are manufactured. Our new alliance illustrates Shaw Pittman’s commitment to meet the legal requirements of Taiwan’s leading electronics, computer and semiconductor manufacturing companies,” said Stephen B. Huttler, managing partner of Shaw Pittman.
To keep ahead of the pace of economic globalization and the expansion of business in the Greater China Region (which includes the People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong and Taiwan), Shaw Pittman extended its global platform in Litigation and Intellectual Property and announced plans for new offices in Taipei and Northern California in April of this year.
“Taiwan, with its exciting technology landscape and growing global influence, is one of the world’s most significant intellectual property battle grounds. Shaw Pittman’s strategic alliance with Chien Yeh is the next step in our strategy to expand our global platform in Asia, commenced more than a decade ago when we began representing a large number of Taiwanese manufacturing companies,” said Lawrence J. Gotts, chair of Shaw Pittman’s Litigation and Intellectual Property practice. “Together with Chien Yeh, Shaw Pittman is now positioned to serve major technology and manufacturing firms with headquarters in Taiwan and operations in the US,” Gotts said.
Yitai Hu joined Shaw Pittman in April as a lateral partner to establish Shaw Pittman’s physical footprint in the Greater China Region and to head Shaw Pittman’s Taipei office. Shaw Pittman also established a new West Coast presence, this one in Northern California, to support the firm’s IP litigation, corporate and technology practices. The firm already has offices in New York, Virginia, Washington and London.
