Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, one of the world’s leading law firms, today announced that it was a legal advisor in the transaction Investment Dealers’ Digest has named as the Overall Deal of the Year for 2003, and additionally was involved in three of the eight transactions selected in industry categories as Deals of the Year. These awards were announced in the magazine’s January 19, 2004, issue.

General Electric Co.’s acquisition of Vivendi Universal Entertainment, in which Weil Gotshal represented Vivendi, was selected as Overall Deal of the Year, as well as M&A Deal of the Year. Weil Gotshal also advised Centerpulse AG in its acquisition by Zimmer Holding Inc., a transaction that took top honors in the Healthcare category. In addition, the firm represented Hughes Electronics Corp. in the completion of its split-off from General Motors Corp. and acquisition of a 34 percent interest by The News Corporation Ltd., which was named as the Media/Entertainment Deal of the Year.
