Boston, MA, 4 June 2004 – LAWFUEL – Mintz Levin’s Literary Discussion Group is featured in the
recently released, The Book Club Cookbook, authored by Judy Gelman and
Vicki Levy Krupp (Tarcher/Penguin, 2004). The authors selected Mintz
Levin’s Literary Discussion Group for its creative pairing of food and
books.
A profile of Mintz Levin’s Literary Discussion Group and one of
its book club selections, Winter Wheat, by Mildred Walker, are featured,
as well as a recipe for borscht, which relates to the book’s theme.
The Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo Literary Discussion
Group was founded in 1988 as a Law and Literature discussion group for
the Boston law firm’s summer associates.
The success of its discussions
led the firm to expand the group to include both partners and
associates. In 1997, the group was reconfigured to involve the partners
and spouses from Mintz Levin’s offices across the country, and its focus
shifted with the selection of literary works that did not necessarily
have a legal angle. Heidi Brown, whose husband, Richard Moche, is a
partner in the Public Finance section of firm’s Boston office, currently
leads the group and selects the books for its members.
“At the group’s inception, our intent was to stimulate more open
discussion on what were sensitive topics at the time, through literary
themes, such as competitiveness or the balancing of work and home
pressures,” says Peter Biagetti, one of the firm’s managing partners.
“Now it?s more about people who enjoy reading coming together to talk
and get to know one another on a different level.”
The Book Club Cookbook includes a collection of recipes and discussion
ideas inspired by popular book club selections from book clubs across
the country that creatively integrate food into their meetings.
