WASHINGTON– LAWFUEL –Bracewell & Giuliani LLP announced today that Carol Elder Bruce has joined the firm as a partner in its Washington, D.C. office, where she will practice in the White Collar Criminal Defense and Special Investigations group.
Ms. Bruce has a national reputation as one of the country’s preeminent trial attorneys. In private practice for the past 20 years — most recently at Venable LLP — she has represented numerous corporations and individuals in a broad range of white collar criminal investigations and prosecutions. Ms. Bruce also has significant experience managing and acting as lead counsel in complex civil litigation and class action matters. Outside of the courtroom, she has represented clients in hearings and proceedings before the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives. She regularly conducts internal investigations on behalf of major corporations and special committees.
In recognition of her outstanding service, Ms. Bruce has received numerous professional awards and has been named among the top lawyers in national legal rankings. Many of these honors are the direct result of peer nominations. Most recently, in December 2007, she was named one of the Top 10 private practice “Big Gun” lawyers in Washington, D.C. by Washingtonian magazine. In 2001, she was the fourth woman lawyer in Washington ever to be invited to join the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers, composed of the top one percent of the trial bar in the United States and Canada.
Previously, Ms. Bruce spent 10 years in public service as an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Columbia, where she investigated and prosecuted hundreds of criminal cases. During this time she served as lead counsel in more than 115 jury trials and managed the grand jury presentations of more than 100 additional cases. Among other notable matters, in 1981 she investigated and prosecuted the former CIA operative Edwin Wilson. Subsequently, she served as Deputy Independent Counsel in the high-profile investigation of Attorney General Edwin Meese regarding his association with the Libyan government. In 1998, Ms. Bruce was named special prosecutor in the investigation of matters concerning Interior Secretary Bruce Babbitt.

Circuit, U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia and U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland. She also holds pro hac vice admissions in numerous federal and state courts.
