Brussels / Frankfurt, June 16, 2006… LAWFUEL – Press Release Service – Latham & Watkins LLP1 is pleased to announce that Gaby Eickstädt will join the firm effective July 15, 2006 as of counsel in the firm’s European Antitrust and Competition Practice Group. Eickstädt, who initially will split her time between the firm’s Brussels and German offices, strengthens the competition law team in Europe.

Eickstädt joins Latham & Watkins from Ashurst in Frankfurt, where she served as head of the German competition practice. She specialises in European and German competition law and has a strong track record providing legal and economic analysis spanning a range of competition law issues. Prior to joining Ashurst, Eickstädt was a member of the German Federal Cartel Office, where she focussed on Merger Control, Abusive Practices, and Cartel Prosecution.

Eickstädt joins Latham’s European Antitrust and Competition Practice which comprises 25 lawyers, including 9 partners, offering a full range of competition law litigation and counseling expertise at both the EC and member state levels. The European competition team brings together comprehensive experience in the major courts and tribunals and offers wide-ranging expertise in merger clearance, cartel defence, “dominant firm” issues and State aid, as well as substantial court experience.

Andreas Weitbrecht, Global Co-Chair of Latham’s Antitrust and Competition Practice Group, said: “Gaby’s arrival is an important step in the firm’s growth strategy to build one of the pre-eminent European competition practices. Gaby is a prominent lawyer in competition law circles, who brings a wealth of competition law and regulatory counsel experience to the team.”

“The Latham team comprises a diverse group of experienced trial lawyers who can practice in the European courts and in a number of European countries including France, Germany, Spain and Italy. The team, strengthened with Gaby’s arrival, brings a depth and breadth of experience to bear on complex competition cases that are increasingly being litigated both in Luxembourg and in national courts by the European Commission,” added Weitbrecht.

“In addition to being one of the leading competition firms globally, Latham has an outstanding reputation for its European competition law practice. I am delighted to be joining my new team at Latham – the firm’s enterprising culture, strong team ethic and global client roster are attractive attributes to me, and will provide a strong platform from which I can further build my practice,” said Eickstädt.
