Clifford Chance acted on two deals out of its Hong Kong office, one being a US$700 million a syndicated, multicurrency term loan facility to ILFC led by JPMorgan. This cross-border transaction was one of the first multicurrency financings for ILFC. The deal was lead by Evan Cohen (partner – Hong Kong) and Steve Lyons (associate – Hong Kong).

The second deal was a US$30million debt restructuring of MBf Holdings Berhad in Malaysia. The transaction involved over 40 creditors in numerous jurisdictions around the world. Security included pledges of shares from Malaysian and Australian subsidiaries. The restructuring was based on the Hong Kong scheme of arrangement, although the principal operation was in Malaysia, which presented interesting multi-jurisdictional issues.

From CC Hong Kong: Evan Cohen (partner – Hong Kong), Bobby Ladwa (associate – Hong Kong), Malini Budhwani (associate – Hong Kong), Frances Wong (associate – Hong Kong), Stefanie Willis (associate – Hong Kong) and, representing JPMorgan Chase, as trustee, Mary Matson (partner – Hong Kong), Kit Johnson (associate – Hong Kong) and Albert Tsang (associate – Hong Kong).
