Cologne 26 January 2005 – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – The German office of DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary is pleased to announce that it has been selected to advise the KONFAM consortium, which will tender for the 12 new motorway toll projects (‘Model A’ scheme) in Germany.
This is the first time that Germany has used PPP to extend its federal motorways. The Model A scheme will be financially supported by revenues generated from Germany’s recently launched HGV toll scheme, which came into operation on the 1 January 2005. The construction volume for the 12 pilot motorway toll projects is expected to exceed €4bn.
Frank Roth, who joined DLA Piper’s German office early this year to build the infrastructure and project finance practice, led the winning pitch to KONFAM, a consortium formed by construction group Strabag, Bickhardt Bau, Max Bögl Bauunternehmung and Hermann Kirchner Bauunternehmung.
A formal announcement inviting bidders to tender has not yet been made by the German Ministry of Transport however the schemes early projects such as the A8 motorway in Bavaria and the A4 motorway in Thuringen are expected to be brought to market in February or early March 2005.
Lawyers at DLA Piper’s German office will advise KONFAM in a range of areas including government procurement, project contracts, risk, corporate and finance, and tax.
