Dallas Attorney’s Writing Earns ‘Best Series of Articles’ Honors From State Bar of Texas

DALLAS (LAWFUEL) – Attorney Jane Taber, a founding partner of Dallas’ Taber Estes Thorne & Carr PLLC, has been selected to receive the “Best Series of Articles – Substantive Law” award from the State Bar of Texas.

Published in September 2007, Taber’s article, “Mitigating Liability While Serving on a Non-Profit Board,” was the second article in a three-part series that appeared in the Dallas Bar Association’s Headnotes newsletter. She co-authored the piece with Dallas attorney Chris Robison.

“Serving on a non-profit board is a tremendous honor, but with that comes substantial responsibility,” says Taber. “The Headnotes series does a wonderful job explaining the benefits and pitfalls, and I am honored that the State Bar has recognized our work.”

Focusing on potential hidden liabilities, Taber’s article offers practical tips for attorneys considering accepting a seat on a non-profit board. Among her key tips are investigating the position, exercising the duties of care and loyalty, and fully disclosing potential conflicts of interest.

Taber writes from experience, having served on various non-profit boards, including the Lakewood Service League and the Developmental Learning Center at Dallas’ First United Methodist Church.

With a comprehensive corporate practice, Taber’s experience includes transactional matters, corporate governance, operational concerns, risk management, business dispute resolution and contract issues. She has a particular emphasis in the health care industry, advising clients in compliance, fraud and abuse, illegal remuneration, referrals and Stark legislation.

Taber Estes Thorne & Carr PLLC is one of the few women-owned law firms in Dallas. It features a collaborative team of highly experienced attorneys, representing clients in business litigation, labor & employment, family law, health care and insurance matters.
