Sept. 8, 2014 – DLA Piper announced today that Carl Buchholz has been named managing partner of the firm’s Philadelphia’s office. Buchholz succeeds Jim Brogan, who was recently named co-chair of the firm’s US Litigation practice.
Brogan has served as office managing partner since 2006, leading the Philadelphia office through significant development, substantially raising the office’s profile nationally and internationally, while also championing its deep commitment to local pro bono service that focuses particularly on veterans, seniors and education. The office includes approximately 45 lawyers and 80 employees overall.
“Carl has consistently proven his leadership skills and is widely respected as a lawyer with tremendous vision,” Brogan said. “He also recognizes the current and potential value of increasing our local profile, and with his impressive standing in the local community for his legal work, government relations and community service, will bring to clients in Philadelphia the same level of service our clients expect worldwide.”
Buchholz, who joined DLA Piper in 2012, has held numerous leadership roles, including managing partner and CEO of Blank Rome LLP. Buchholz also served as special assistant for Homeland Security to President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2002 and worked as transition team chairman for the US Department of Homeland Security. He was also co-chair of the transition team for Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett and worked as Pennsylvania general counsel for the Bush-Cheney Presidential Campaign in 2004.
His commercial litigation and government relations practice includes counseling clients in such areas as state and federal regulatory, administrative and legislative matters; commercial and general litigation; government contracts, environmental law, insurance; and intellectual property and patents.
