Acclaimed Academic and Business Authority to Support Key Strategic Initiatives
(Chicago) April 8, 2010 – DLA Piper announced today that Dipak C. Jain, former dean of the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, will become a consultant to the firm. He is currently the Sandy and Morton Goldman Professor in Entrepreneurial Studies and a professor of marketing at the Kellogg School of Management, where he served as dean from 2001-2009.
Recognized around the globe for his research, Jain will provide strategic counsel to DLA Piper in a number of key areas, including firm strategy and client relationship management. His extensive network of contacts, particularly those in India, will also serve as a resource to the firm and its clients.

With more than 50 articles published in leading academic journals, Jain’s areas of research include the marketing of high-tech products, market segmentation and competitive market structure analysis, cross-cultural issues in global product diffusion, new product diffusion, and forecasting models.

Jain joined the Kellogg School of Management faculty in 1987 with more than 20 years of experience in management and education before becoming dean in 2001. In 2003, he was also appointed as a foreign affairs adviser for the Prime Minister of Thailand where he oversaw a branding study designed to bolster that country’s economic profile through tourism. In 2007, Jain was asked by Henry Paulson, then secretary of the Department of the Treasury, to develop a strategy on the global expansion of US universities.
Jain has also served as a consultant to Microsoft, Novartis, American Express, Sony, Nissan, Motorola, Eli Lilly, Phillips and Hyatt International, and he serves on the boards of directors of Hartmarx Corporation, Deere & Company, Northern Trust Corporation and Reliance Industries (India). He is a former director at United Airlines and Peoples Energy.
