DLA Piper Strengthens International Trade Team

LAWFUEL – The Legal Newswire – London – DLA Piper UK LLP is delighted to announce the appointment of leading international trade lawyer, Claudia Orozco. Claudia, a World Trade Organisation (WTO) specialist, brings vast experience to the team derived from her time in private practice and the six years she served as a Minister Counsellor at the Columbian Mission to the WTO in Geneva.

Claudia is a leading WTO litigator whose expertise has been recognised by her appointment to eight WTO dispute settlement panels. She is a well known figure in international trade circles and is widely credited with the establishment in 2001 of the Advisory Centre on WTO Law, a Geneva-based intergovernmental organisation that provides legal advice, training and support in dispute settlement proceedings to developing and least developed countries (LDCs).
Claudia joins a strong WTO practice at DLA Piper headed by former lead European Commission services negotiator and senior advisor to two EU External Relations Commissioners, Miriam Gonzalez. The practice also includes ex-UK Trade and Investment Minister, Baroness Liz Symons of Vernham Dean and Sarah Salmond, the former New Zealand agriculture negotiator.

Mike Pullen, Head of DLA Piper’s EU, Competition and Trade Team, commented: “We’re delighted to have Claudia onboard. Her vast skills and experience complement our existing team and she brings significant strength to our WTO and customs practices. Together, Miriam Gonzalez and Claudia bring a unique combination of first-rate legal skills alongside the practical experience of working for governments and the connections that come with being a senior trade negotiator and litigator. Her appointment is timely given the level of instructions we are receiving in these areas.”
Claudia, who will assume the position of “Of Counsel” will work jointly from DLA Piper’s offices in Brussels and London.
Claudia joined DLA Piper on 7 January 2008.
