Experts meet April 20 at Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism OKLAHOMA CITY-- LAWFUEL - Legal Newswire --Oklahoma City University School of Law will host a national conference on the legal framework for counterterrorism measures. The event, to be held Friday, April 20, at the Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism, will feature presentations by experts on national security law and counterterrorism measures from around the United States The Honorable John C. Richter, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Oklahoma, will deliver the keynote address. Prior to his return to Oklahoma in 2005, Richter led the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, where he oversaw the Counterterrorism and Counterespionage Sections and participated in daily briefings with the Attorney General and FBI Director on terrorism and other national security threats and investigations. Over his career in the Justice Department, he also led many investigations both as a supervisor and line prosecutor, including the successful prosecution of an associate of Zacarias Moussaoui, and worked in the Office of Intelligence Policy and Review, presenting applications for court-authorized electronic surveillance and physical searches in international terrorism investigations. He currently serves as a member of the Attorney General’s Advisory Subcommittee on Terrorism and National Security. Other speakers will examine the nature of modern terrorism and counterterrorism, reconciling civil liberties with emerging methods of surveillance, and the legal framework for detention and interrogation of suspected terrorists. The symposium is the first of its kind to be held in the Oklahoma City area, says symposium organizer and OCU Law Professor Marc Blitz. “The subject of this symposium reflects Oklahoma City University’s current strength in constitutional law and other public law topics related to national security law,” he said. Attendees will include OCU students and alumni, lawyers and legal educators.
