Former GAP Inc GC Joins Reed Smith

 

SAN FRANCISCO (February 7, 2017) – Reed Smith LLP today announced the addition of Paul R. Mohun as a partner in the firm’s global Real Estate Group in San Francisco.  Mohun was most recently associate general counsel for real estate at The Gap Inc. in San Francisco.  He was previously a real estate partner at Reed Smith and its predecessor firm in California, Crosby Heafey, from 2000 until 2006 and began his career as a real estate litigator at Bronson Bronson McKinnon in 1992.

As associate general counsel at Gap, Mohun managed sizeable teams responsible for the company’s retail, corporate office, and industrial real estate transactions, as well as property management, dispute resolution and litigation, for a portfolio of some 2,500 retail outlets and dozens of offices and distribution centers across all of Gap’s brands (Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic, Athleta, Intermix and Piperlime).  He acted as real estate lead for numerous strategic initiatives while at Gap, including the acquisition and disposition of major corporate real estate assets and flagship retail locations; strategic corporate acquisitions; the downsizing of the company’s brick and mortar fleet; and its growing migration toward omnichannel retailing. He also had extensive global responsibilities, managing Gap’s Tokyo legal office and negotiating significant real estate transactions for Gap in Canada, China, India, Japan, Korea. Mexico and Vietnam, among other jurisdictions.  Mohun managed Gap’s Japan legal team across all specialty areas, and most recently was responsible for all real estate law aspects of Gap’s expansion into Latin America from 2014 through 2016.

 

Among other professional accomplishments, Mohun was a founding principal in Carneros Partners LLC, the developer of the Carneros Inn in the Napa Valley, one of the leading luxury boutique hotels in the United States.

Mohun received his J.D. from the University of San Francisco Law School and his Bachelor of Science from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University.  He is also a magna cum laude graduate of l’Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris (“Sciences Po”) in Paris.  A bilingual French speaker, he is also fluent in Spanish and professionally proficient in Italian and Russian. Mohun is a native San Franciscan who is active in numerous civic and community organizations. He has served as a long-time member of the board of directors and former board chair at Larkin Street Youth Services, a national leader in addressing youth homelessness; a board and executive committee member at St. Ignatius College Preparatory, the oldest private college preparatory school in San Francisco; and a member of the Legal Committee of the Olympic Club.  He is a regular volunteer at St. Anne’s Home (Little Sisters of the Poor) in San Francisco, and with the Georgetown University Admissions Committee.

 

Mohun has been extensively involved in pro bono work at every stage of his career, representing nonprofit organizations in connection with their real estate needs and individual clients in guardianship and immigration cases, among many other engagements.  He served for three years as co-chair of Gap Inc.’s Global Pro Bono & Pipeline Committee, overseeing engagement efforts and managing the client portfolio for Gap’s innovative, worldwide pro bono and legal pipeline diversity efforts.
