Francesca Morris, associate in the New York office of Holland & Knight, will be awarded the prestigious John K. Geiger Award at inMotion’s 5th Annual Commitment to Justice Awards. The ceremony will be held on December 1st, at Fordham University School of Law from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Ms. Morris has helped survivors of domestic violence referred by inMotion with crucial family and matrimonial law matters – enabling them to free themselves from abusive relationships, secure protective orders and win custody of their children. She became involved with domestic violence issues as a law student while working at a battered women’s clinic at Fordham University School of Law. After graduation she continued her work through the already established program of referrals to Holland & Knight from inMotion. Ms. Morris now oversees that program and enthusiastically recruits associates from Holland & Knight to represent the women referred by inMotion. Since 2001, Ms. Morris’ efforts have secured representation for 13 women who were victims of domestic abuse and she has participated in each of their cases. This award represents her deep commitment to pro bono work and inMotion’s mission to ensure all women have equal access to justice.
The John K. Geiger Award was instituted in 2002 in memory of one of the association’s most committed, compassionate and long-term volunteers who died tragically young in July 2002. Geiger was one of the first legal assistants to volunteer for inMotion’s RITE Workshop more than five years ago, and he continued working with inMotion clients after becoming an attorney. His genuine enthusiasm persuaded many colleagues to become volunteers as well.
Ms. Morris practices in the area of litigation with emphasis on commercial litigation, maritime law and bankruptcy law. She received her J.D. from Fordham University School of Law.
