Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City February 21, 2004 – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – YKVN has been nominated as “National Law Firm of the Year” for Vietnam for 2003 by the editors of International Financial Law Review (IFLR), a leading journal covering corporate finance and legal transactions.

IFLR has announced the region’s top legal deals and law firms ahead of its Asian Awards 2003, to be held March 11 in Hong Kong. Nominations cover significant 2003 transactions in Asia including transactions in the following categories: debt & equity linked deals; distressed asset deals; equity deals; M&A deals; project finance deals; restructuring deals and securitization deals. Nominations also focus on three areas of practice leading to awards for (i) China Practice Team of the Year, (ii) International Law Firm of the Year, and (iii) National Law Firm of the Year.

On March 11, the winner of “National Law Firm of the Year” for Asia will be named from among YKVN and national winners from 13 other countries in Asia. Nominee law firms include top law firms from each country including: Mallesons Stephen Jacques for Australia; Allen & Gledhill for Singapore; Zaid Ibrahim & Co. for Malaysia; Chandler & Thong-Ek for Thailand; SyCip Salazar Hernandez & Gatmaitan for the Philippines; Johnson Stokes & Master for Hong Kong; Lee & Li for Taiwan; Kim & Chang for Korea and Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu for Japan.

“This is the first time a Vietnamese law firm is being considered for this award. The nomination is a great honor for YKVN since it places YKVN shoulder-to-shoulder with the leading law firms in Asia. This award also underscores the maturity achieved by Vietnamese law firms in the process of implementing the legal reform policies of the Ministry of Justice over the past 10 years,” said Truong Nhat Quang, managing partner of YKVN.

According to IFLR, the nominated deals and law firms for the Asian Awards reflect “legal innovation in the region last year across all areas of corporate finance.” In 2003, YKVN was at the cutting edge of the development of the Vietnamese syndicated loan market and has worked extensively with all four State-owned Vietnamese banks. YKVN was also Vietnamese counsel to Vietnam Airlines in the financing of its purchase of four Boeing 777 aircraft, the first U.S. Eximbank-guaranteed financing in Vietnam. “We believe the judges who selected YKVN were impressed by the depth and breadth of our work, as we have focused on developing a practice that supports the business of our clients both in Vietnam and overseas,” said partner Diep Hoai Nam.

“The award recognizes the valuable continuing support of our domestic and international clients including Procter & Gamble, Agifish, Vietnam Airlines, Vietcombank, BIDV, Fortis Bank, Citibank and Credit Lyonnais . It also recognizes the dedication of our lawyers to providing high-quality legal services to our clients,” added partner Le Cong Dinh.
