Hong Kong – 15 December 2004 – LAWFUEL – First with law news – Mallesons Stephen Jaques has announced the appointment of Mr Steven Christopher as a partner to its Hong Kong office. The appointment which is effective from early January 2005 will see Mr Christopher, a Banking and Finance specialist, join the recently expanded Hong Kong practice of the firm following its merger with Kwok & Yih.
Practising as a lawyer in Hong Kong since 1991, Mr Christopher joins Mallesons from Linklaters’ Hong Kong office, where he more recently was head of that firm’s Asian Banking Group.
During the last 14 years in Asia, Mr Christopher has developed a broad debt-financing practice across the region with key areas of expertise being leveraged loans/LBOs/acquisition finance; telco financings; debt restructurings; trade and receivables financings; asset financings; debt securities; financial institution M&A; and loan syndications.
In making the announcement, Mallesons’ Chief Executive Partner, Robert Milliner said: “Mallesons has recently seen a surge in enquiries and new instructions across Asia but particularly on China-related matters from existing and new clients alike. Steven will make a valuable addition to our Hong Kong team, bringing with him years of experience and knowledge of the Hong Kong market.

This appointment follows Mallesons’ expansion of its Beijing office and merger with leading Hong Kong law firm, Kwok & Yih, which completed in October this year. The merger marked the culmination of years of organic expansion of Mallesons’ Hong Kong office and its commitment to building the firm’s wider Asian presence.
