HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif.- LAWFUEL – Legal News, Legal Jobs –Llorente SIU™, a California-based provider of contract special investigation services to U.S. insurers, announced today that its alliance with Alaska National Insurance Company, a multi-line commercial insurer serving businesses in the Western United States, has yielded success with the recent conviction of Yvonne Richardson for workers’ compensation fraud.
As the Special Investigative Unit (SIU) for Alaska National Insurance Company, Llorente SIU handled the referral package after it was discovered that Richardson, a Certified Nurses Assistant, had failed to disclose a prior non-industrial injury as part of a workers’ compensation claim against her employer.
Llorente SIU worked with the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office to ultimately convict Richardson, who was charged in March 2006 with five counts of false or fraudulent statements, and one count of presenting a false or fraudulent statement. In September 2006, Richardson pled guilty to one count and admitted to making a false representation for the purpose of obtaining workers’ compensation funds.
On October 23, 2006, Richardson was convicted of insurance fraud in the Superior Court of California, County of San Diego and sentenced to 180 days in the county jail. The jail time was stayed pending successful completion of five years of felony probation; 80 hours of voluntary work for a non-profit organization; payment of a $239 fine and a restitution fine of $200. Richardson is also required to make restitution to the Alaska National Insurance Company in the amount of $24,144.40.
