International law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer is pleased to announce that Anthony Salz and Konstantin Mettenheimer have been elected senior partners with effect from 1 May 2004.
Konstantin Mettenheimer, who is currently regional managing partner for Germany, Austria and Central and Eastern Europe, replaces outgoing senior partner Christian Wilde, who has held the post since the merger in 2000 and who retires from the firm as of 30 September 2004. Konstantin Mettenheimer specialises in tax and corporate law and has been with the firm since 1986.
Anthony Salz, who has been senior partner since 1996, joined Freshfields in 1975. He became senior partner of Freshfields in May 1996, and co-senior partner of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in August 2000. Before becoming senior partner, he was head of the firm’s corporate department from 1994 to 1996 and its corporate finance practice from 1990 to 1994.
“Konstantin has already contributed enormously to the overall success of the merger, especially through his hard work as one of the regional managing partners for Germany, Austria and Central and Eastern Europe,” said Salz. “I know that we will benefit greatly from this excellent track record and the considerable experience he has gained.”
Mettenheimer added: “To be elected senior partner is both an honour and a serious challenge. Together with Anthony, I hope to continue his and Christian’s excellent work, focusing in particular on further improving client relationships around our worldwide network and encouraging even more effective interaction across the firm.”
Current senior partner Christian Wilde added: “The last few years have been particularly exciting ones for Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, as the firm has moved from strength to strength internationally. I’m very pleased that I was able to play a role in helping so many developments come to fruition. I’m also delighted that Konstantin will be joining Anthony as a senior partner.”
Mettenheimer and Salz have appointed Hugh Crisp to succeed Alan Peck, who has been chief executive since 1996 and who retires in the spring of 2004, as the firm’s new chief executive, with Kirk Stephenson and Peter Jeffcote continuing as the other members of the central management team.
