Jenner & Block Partner Stephanie A. Scharf has been installed as President-Elect of the National Association of Women Lawyers for the 2003-2004 term. Ms. Scharf is a senior partner specializing in complex litigation. She received both a law degree and doctorate in behavioral sciences from the University of Chicago.
Ms. Scharf’s focus for NAWL is on programs that assist women lawyers to reach leadership positions in the places they practice, including law firms, corporate law departments and government. “It has become the norm for women to graduate from law school and start up the ladder of legal practice; but the steps up to a leadership role are still hard to climb, for a variety of reasons. Part of NAWL’s programming focus over the next year will be on identifying the factors that move women into leadership positions, and the structures, skills and assistance that could be helpful in giving women lawyers a boost up.” Ms. Scharf envisions working cooperatively with other interested bar associations, firms and businesses.
She invites any interested women lawyers to contact her at sscharf@jenner.com.
