LawFuel.net – 2 November 2011 – The NASCAR champion driver Jeremy Mayfield was arrested at his home in Catawba, North Carolina on drugs charges. Allegedly, drugs were found at Mayfield’s home while deputies to the Catawba County Sheriff were searching his home as part of an investigation of stolen property.
Also found was approximately $100,000 worth of stolen property, 1.5 grams of methamphetamine and dozens of guns were reportedly found on the property. Mayfield was released after he posted bail that same night. Reports indicate that some of the property belonged to the state, Red Bull Racing and local companies.
Jeremy Mayfield had a successful career as a NASCAR Sprint Cup driver. He raced at least one race per season for 16 seasons from 1993 until 2009. He had five wins over those 16 seasons with his final win in 2005. In 2009, the driver made headlines when he failed a drug test. Although he claimed he was not using drugs, NASCAR officials confirmed that he had tested positive for methamphetamine. He was indefinitely suspended from the sport.
“Having just heard and read the news about the Jeremy Mayfield incident, we will have to see how the facts play out,” NASCAR spokesman Kerry Tharp said. “NASCAR’s goal in its substance abuse program has always been to keep competitors safe and create treatment opportunities for those who need it.”
