July 13, 2005, Washington, D.C. – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – Steptoe & Johnson LLP today announced that President George W. Bush intends to nominate Stewart A. Baker to serve as Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security (Policy). Mr. Baker is currently a partner in Steptoes Washington, D.C. office where he leads the firms highly-regarded E-Commerce/Internet Practice and handles matters involving national security and law enforcement, critical infrastructure protection, data security.

Mr. Baker previously served as General Counsel for the Commission on the Intelligence Capabilities of the United States Regarding Weapons of Mass Destruction. Prior to that, Mr. Baker served as General Counsel for the National Security Agency. Earlier in his career, he was a law clerk for Justice John Paul Stevens, U.S. Supreme Court. Mr. Baker received his bachelors degree from Brown University and his J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles.
