July 18, 2005, Washington, D.C. – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – Steptoe & Johnson LLP is pleased to announce that J.A. “Lon” Bouknight, a partner in their Washington, D.C. office and immediate past chairman of the firm, has been selected to serve as Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Edison International. Edison International is the holding company that owns Southern California Edison Company, one of the largest utility companies in the United States. Current Steptoe chair Roger Warin commented “This is a great and well-deserved honor and opportunity for Lon. It reflects well on our firm that our colleague would be selected for such a significant position at one of the premier energy companies in the world.”

Lon Bouknight and his partners in the electric power practice joined Steptoe & Johnson LLP in 1994. He quickly made a mark at Steptoe, leading a premier team of electric power practitioners, integrating that practice at Steptoe, and then being elected to three successive two year terms as chair of the firm. Roger Warin observed that “His leadership as Chair was important to our achieving our current levels of success. Lon has been a valued friend and adviser of mine during my first 18 months as Chair, and we will miss his good counsel.”

The Steptoe Electric Power Group has a number of highly successful partners, many of whom expect to continue to work with Lon in his new capacity with a long-term firm client. “Lon leaves the firm and the Electric Power Group in very good shape, and we are confident that his sojourn to southern California will be extremely successful,” commented Doug Green, one of the senior partners in the Electric Power Group and vice-chair of the firm.

Mr. Bouknight received his bachelor’s degree from Wofford College in 1965, and his J.D. from Duke University in 1968.
