(July 31, 2006 – LAWFUEL – Press release service – Washington, D.C.) – Steptoe & Johnson LLP today announced that John Caracappa has joined its Washington, D.C., Intellectual Property Practice as a partner, effective immediately. Mr. Caracappa was formerly a member of the IP group in the Washington, D.C. office of Akin Gump, where his practice focused on patent litigation.
“John has exceptional experience and qualifications as an IP litigator,” said Alfred Mamlet, head of Steptoe’s IP Practice Group. “We expect him to contribute significantly to the further development of our patent litigation practice.”
Mr. Caracappa joined Akin Gump in 2004 from the intellectual property group at Clifford Chance. He has represented a range of Fortune 500 and leading international companies utilizing new technologies, including injection molding systems, chip scale packages, excimer lasers, cell phones and microprocessors in district courts and at the International Trade Commission.
“The growing IP litigation practice at Steptoe is a very good fit for my interests and capabilities,” said Mr. Caracappa. “As a proven force in IP, Steptoe has everything I am looking for as a platform to expand services to my present clients and reach out to develop new client relationships. Mr. Caracappa has led trial teams and managed major patent litigation in the Eastern District of Michigan involving automotive transfer cases, and in the Eastern District of Texas involving microprocessors. He has drafted and prosecuted patent applications for both mechanical and electrical inventions and prepared noninfringment opinions.
A 1998 graduate of Franklin Pierce Law Center, Mr. Caracappa earned a BS in industrial engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1995. After graduation from law school, served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Randall Rader, U.S Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
He is admitted to the New York and Washington DC bars and registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
