June 28, 2005, Washington, DC – LAWFUEL – The News Network – Roger E. Warin, chairman of Steptoe & Johnson LLP, received the distinguished Wiley A. Branton Award from the Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs for his continued dedication to civil rights advocacy. For over 35 years, the Lawyers’ Committee has defended the civil rights of individuals and groups, and has garnered the resources of the private bar to accomplish its mission to confront and correct injustice and inequality.
The Lawyers’ Committee recognized Mr. Warin and The Honorable Nathaniel R. Jones at its annual Branton Luncheon on June 28, 2005, at the Grand Hyatt Washington Hotel, in Washington, DC. Prior award winners include The Honorable Patricia M. Wald, former Attorneys General Janet Reno and Richard Thornburgh, Judge Charles Richey, and Steptoe partner and Lawyers’ Committee co-founder, John E. Nolan.
Mr. Warin has supported the Lawyers’ Committee for more than 30 years, served as co-chair from 2000 to 2002, and has served as a board member for the past 12 years. Through his affiliation with and support of the organization, the Lawyers’ Committee and Steptoe work together on countless civil rights-related cases.
In response to Mr. Warin’s recognition, James Rocap, chair of Steptoe’s Pro Bono Committee, stated, “Steptoe has a long and proud tradition of public service and a strong commitment to pro bono work. Roger’s many years of supporting the mission of the Lawyers’ Committee have been central to that commitment. Everyone at Steptoe congratulates him on this outstanding achievement.”
Mr. Warin received his J.D. from Georgetown University, after earning his A.B. cum laude from Creighton University. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Lawyers’ Committee. Mr. Warin is also a fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers, an organization recognizing outstanding trial lawyers and dedicated to upholding the ethics of the legal profession, as well as a member of the American Bar Foundation, a nonprofit national research organization.
