Kilpatrick Stockton announces today that it advised ISS
Mediclean on the Newham General Hospital PFI Project in East London, which has now
reached financial close.
The scheme is part of the Equion plc contract worth £35 million, and includes the
design and construction of two major extensions for the Hospital, providing a new
Clinical Block and an ACAD Unit.
This will expand the Hospital to a total of
510-Inpatient and 40-Day Patient beds. ISS Mediclean will provide all Hard and Soft
Facility Services in a contract worth in excess of £6.75 million per annum.
The services to be provided by ISS Mediclean include amongst others: Estates,
Utilities Management, Catering Services (Patient, Staff and Visitor), Domestic &
Hostess Services and Portering.
Partner Edward Marston who led the Kilpatrick Stockton team said “The Newham
Hospital PFI project has broken new boundaries in establishing an active partnership
between the Newham NHS Trust and the private sector service supply chain for the
provision of hospital-wide services based on innovative insurance and contractual
arrangements.”
Simon Cox, managing director of ISS Mediclean, said: “The signing of the Newham
project is our 12th PFI in Healthcare, and our 14th overall, which we believe is a
record for a Facility Services provider. It also underlines our commitment to the
PFI process, which represents a major platform for our long-term development.”
Construction will commence in February 2004 with all work due to be completed by
Summer 2006 when more than 300 staff will be seconded to ISS Mediclean under the new
Retention of Employment (ROE) scheme.
The London based Kilpatrick Stockton Projects Group has advised clients on deals
worth more than £1 billion in 2003. The team has recently been augmented by Simon
Hunter (Construction) who joined from Simmons and Simmons and Nikki Robinson
(Project Finance) who joined from Linklaters.
