Lakeland Man Pleads Guilty to Threatening Then-President-Elect Obama

LawFuel.com – 20 August, 2009 – United States Attorney A. Brian Albritton announces that Nathan Wine (age 21, of Lakeland) pleaded guilty today to making a threat against then-President-Elect Obama.

Wine faces a maximum sentence of five years in federal prison. Wine had been indicted on January 15, 2009.

According to facts disclosed at Wine’s plea hearing, on November 5, 2008, Wine made a threat via e-mail to the United States Army Recruiting Command. In that message, Wine stated, “I will not rest until this tyrant of america IS GUNNED DOWN AND HIS CRIMES SHALL BE RUNNING ,” and asserted that he would “not mind going behind bars FOR BEING A TRIGGER MAN ON THIS TYRENT.” The email concluded with the statement,“THE BLOOD OF OBAMA WILL RUN DOWN THE STREETS OF D.C.”

On November 13, 2008, Wine admitted to Secret Service agents that he had written and sent the e-mail message to the Army. He also discussed with the agents his of plans assassinate the then-President-Elect.

This case was investigated by the United States Secret Service, with the assistance of the United States Army. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jay L. Hoffer of the Tampa Division.
