Lawfuel — Two hundred students and professors from Drexel University’s College of Law raised more than $14,000 at an auction April 3 on campus. The money will support grants that will help students defray living expenses while completing unpaid public-interest summer jobs that benefit needy Philadelphians.
The College’s first annual public-interest auction featured a trivia challenge, karaoke and auctions of goods and services donated by students, faculty, staff and Greater Philadelphia businesses. The highlight came with auctions whose leading bidders got to throw pies into the faces of Daniel Filler, senior associate dean for academic and faculty affairs and professor of law, and Barry Furrow, professor of law and director of the concentration in health law.
The auctioned items included tickets to sporting events and theater performances; lessons in Japanese, swing dance and pistol shooting; home-cooked meals; and outings with Drexel Law faculty.
Susan Brooks, associate dean for experiential learning and associate professor of law, said the event’s success reflects widespread support at the school for public-interest work.
