Further strengthening links with Asia

International legal practice Norton Rose Group is sponsoring UK Now, potentially the biggest ever celebration of UK arts to be held in China.

The festival launched last Thursday at a reception hosted by Sebastian Wood, the British Ambassador to China, at the Ambassador’s Residence in Beijing.

Hundreds of events will take place in 17 cities across China, featuring some of the UK’s most prominent artists and performers from a cross section of artistic forms.

The UK Now Festival aims to allow UK businesses and arts institutions to build relationships and recognise cultural parallels with their counterparts in China. For UK corporates, engagement with China is key as business trends and trade routes become increasingly global.

Peter Martyr, Group Chief Executive, Norton Rose Group said:

“We’re pleased to support this dynamic celebration of UK art and culture in China. Our sponsorship of UK Now perfectly complements our highly successful sponsorship of China Now in 2008 – it is good to see the UK business and cultural communities working together to create a stronger bridge between China and the UK.”

Don Boyd, Group Deputy Chief Executive in Australia, Norton Rose Group said:

“From over 30 years experience, we have a deep understanding of China and remain committed to further growth in the country. As one of the world’s leading economies and a cultural capital in Asia Pacific, China offers compelling business opportunities. Our offices and experts allow us to provide effective client solutions for transactions in China, throughout the Asia Pacific region and beyond. We welcome the opportunity to draw our cultures closer together.”

Norton Rose Group has had a presence in China since 1976 and opened two further offices in Beijing in 2001 and Shanghai in 2006. Norton Rose Group further expanded in Asia Pacific in 2010 when it combined with Norton Rose Australia. Today Norton Rose Group is one of the best resourced legal practices in the Asia Pacific, with 13 offices throughout the region.

In 2011, Norton Rose Group expanded into Canada and South Africa and has subsequently opened its first offices in Central Asia and Latin America. The practice has more than 2900 lawyers internationally with key strengths in financial institutions; energy; mining; infrastructure and commodities; transport; technology and innovation; and pharmaceuticals and life sciences.
