HOUSTON – The Haynes and Boone, LLP Energy and Power Practice Group participated in four deals selected by Oil and Gas Investor as winners in the 2007 Oil and Gas Investor Excellence Awards, an annual recognition program which identifies stand-out executives, M&A deals and financings, wildcatting, field rejuvenation, investor relations and corporate citizenship within the oil and gas industry.
Of the five award categories honoring significant deals and executives, Haynes and Boone played a critical role in one or more aspect in four out of five categories.
Winning categories and deal highlights in which Haynes and Boone participated include the following:
M&A Deal of the Year was awarded to BreitBurn Energy Partners LP for its acquisition of Michigan, Indiana and Kentucky assets from Quicksilver Resources Inc. Haynes and Boone served as primary counsel to Wells Fargo Bank, Senior Agent on BreitBurn’s $1,500,000,000 syndicated secured acquisition financing.
Financing of the Year went to privately-held Milagro Exploration, LLC. Haynes and Boone represented Guggenheim Investment Management in its role as a private equity investor and second lien lender to Milagro in connection with Milagro’s $825,000,000 purchase of Gulf Coast assets from PetroHawk.
Executive of the Year went to Leor Energy LP co-founder Guma Aguiar in connection with Leor’s $2.55 billion sale of East Texas/Deep Bossier properties to EnCana last November. The EnCana sale included 15,000 gross acres Leor acquired earlier in the year under its partnership with Navasota Resources, LP. Haynes and Boone represented Navasota in the original acquisition and in connection with Leor’s subsequent sale of its partnership interest to EnCana.
Discovery of the Year went to Contango Oil & Gas Co. for the Dutch Prospect, Eugene Island Block 10 offshore Louisiana in which Haynes and Boone represented Centaurus Capital, LLC in its secured development loan as sole lender to Contango and a working interest investor in EI 10 and other offshore blocks.
