FULLERTON, Calif.– LAWFUEL –Law students have a chance to win cash awards for writing a scholarly position paper in response to the problem presented regarding embryo donation and adoption. The essay competition is being conducted by NightlightTM Christian Adoptions as part of its Embryo Donation and Adoption Awareness Campaign. Nightlight Christian Adoptions is a licensed, non-profit adoption agency headquartered in California.
The essay competition is a way to create a greater interest in embryo donation and adoption, part of the field of Assisted Reproduction Technology Law, among all law students in the nation. It is open to currently enrolled law students who have successfully completed their first year of studies. Submissions must be the student’s original, unpublished work. The entries are not to exceed 25 pages.
“We want to get law students interested and involved in the emerging issues facing embryo donation and adoption and reproductive technology as a whole,” said Ronald Stoddart, executive director of Nightlight Christian Adoptions. “Currently there are few laws on the books pertaining to these newer reproductive choices. We are hoping to stir a national discussion on how to handle the many possible legal challenges lurking just around the corner.”
The first place award is $2,500 cash plus airfare and accommodations to the National Embryo Donation and Adoption Conference, May 29-31, 2008 in Arlington, Virginia where the winner will present his or her successful essay. The second place prize is $1,500 cash and third place is $1,000.
Interested law students can register for the essay competition at www.embryolaw.org. Submissions must be received no later than midnight PST on March 2, 2008.
