LAWFUEL – Law News, Law Jobs Network – R. Alexander Acosta, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida and Jonathan I. Solomon, Special Agent in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation, announced that on December 7, 2006, Raymond Scanzini, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida was sentenced by Judge James I. Cohn to a total of 96 months’ imprisonment after pleading guilty to one count of mailing, transporting, and shipping child pornography; one count of receipt of child pornography; and one count of possession of child pornography. Scanzini’s arrest is part of an operation designed to combat child exploitation on the Internet. Additionally, Scanzini was sentenced to a lifetime term of supervised release as well as a $17,500 fine. The court also ordered Scanzini to register as a sex offender.
In this case, agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, in March of 2006, determined that Scanzini had images of child pornography. Thereafter, a federal search warrant for Scanzini’s computer and house was executed on April 17, 2006. Forensic analysis of his computer revealed thousands of images of child pornography and over fifty (50) videos containing child pornography. On September 28, 2006, after a contested suppression hearing, Scanzini pled guilty to all counts in the Indictment.
Mr. Acosta commended the investigative efforts of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Daniel Rashbaum.
