Solomon, Special Agent in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Miami Field Office, Amos Rojas, Jr., Special Agent in Charge, Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), Miami Region, Sheriff Ken Jenne, Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO), and Chief Dan Giustino, Pembroke Pines Police Department, announce the arrest today of Thomas Manuel Colon, age 19 on bank robbery charges.
Colon was arrested this afternoon by FBI and FDLE agents at Wachovia Bank, 6810 Miramar Parkway, Miramar, Florida. The FBI was conducting a surveillance of Colon when he pulled into Wachovia Bank and parked his car. He was arrested when he left his car to walk into the bank. Colon was carrying a handgun, a demand note, and a bag to put the money in.
Colon is believed to be responsible for at least seven bank robberies in Florida: five in Broward County, one in Boca Raton and one in Gainesville. All the bank robberies took place at Wachovia Bank branches.
Colon was identified through a witness who saw a man running from a Wachovia Bank that had just been robbed. The robbery occurred on October 24, 2006 at the Wachovia Bank located at 2200 Atlantic Boulevard, Pompano Beach, Florida. The witness was able to provide a license plate of a car that investigators were able to link to Colon.
This case is being worked jointly by the FBI, FDLE, BSO and Pembroke Pines Police Department.
