LAWFUEL – Legal News Network – Mallesons Stephen Jaques, in conjunction with the Australian Business Council for Sustainable Energy, the Chinese Renewable Energy Industry Association, the Australian Greenhouse Office and IT Power Australia has developed a unique publication to help Australian companies enter the clean energy market in China.
Mallesons wrote the publication’s content about the legal and regulatory framework and investment issues to consider. Climate change and clean energy partner Christopher Tung led the Mallesons team on this project.
Christopher Tung comments: “One striking difference between Australia and China is the legal and regulatory framework. Other aspects of business in China may be best cultivated in-country. But well before making any investment decisions, prudent investors need to understand relevant business laws, how to protect their assets and available dispute resolution mechanisms.”
The guide: Pursuing Renewable Energy Business with China is a joint project between Australia and China under Australia’s Bilateral Climate Change Partnerships Program.
Christopher Tung said: “The final product is the result of a strong collaborative effort and has created valuable working relationships for us with both Australian and Chinese companies and government agencies in this increasingly important sector.”
The guide was launched in Canberra by the Australian Environment Minister, Senator the Hon Ian Campbell and Madame Fu Ying, the Chinese ambassador to Australia. The launch took place ahead of Australia’s largest ever clean energy business mission to China. Led by Senator Campbell, the mission’s aim was to facilitate clean energy business opportunities between the two countries.
Mallesons participated in the mission together with Australian government officials and representatives from Australian companies. Delegates from Mallesons included partners Louis Chiam and Christopher Tung, chief representative of the Beijing office, John Shi and senior associates Nicolas Groffman and Adam Newgreen.
