LAWFUEL – Legal Newswire – Australian law news – The ABC reports that a former director of the Defence Intelligence Organisation is suing the publisher of The Bulletin magazine for defamation, over articles published in 2004.
Frank Lewincamp has told the ACT Supreme Court the most damaging allegation made by the magazine is that he intentionally cut off the flow of intelligence to Australian troops serving in East Timor.
Mr Lewincamp’s lawyers say that ACP Publishing used the defence of truth when the proceedings began about three years ago, but have abandoned that defence in the lead-up to the trial.
Prominent members of Australia’s defence community are expected to give evidence, including former armed forces chief General Peter Cosgrove.
