LAWFUEL – The Law Newswire – Does Michael Vick face further charges relating to the dogfighting offences he has been charged with last month?A grand jury is scheduled to convene today in a Richmond, Va., federal court where Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick and three co-defendants were indicted on dogfighting charges last month, the Boston Herald reports.
There’s no indication whether the grand jury will take up further allegations against Vick, although federal prosecutors have said they plan to seek a superseding indictment in the case.
That would mean more charges against Vick, the lone defendant who has not been convicted now that all three of his co-defendants have reached plea deals.
In Saturday’s 31-20 loss at Dallas, Denver lost starting defensive end Ebenezer Ekuban for the season to a torn Achilles tendon, while running back Travis Henry sprained his left knee and might not play until the season opener.
Henry underwent additional tests yesterday to confirm the original diagnosis of a first-degree (least serious) sprain of the medial collateral ligament.
Defensive end Ryan Denney, who broke his left foot on the opening kickoff in Buffalo’s 13-10 preseason loss to Atlanta on Friday night, is scheduled for surgery today and will be out indefinitely.
The injury leaves Buffalo with Anthony Hargrove as the only experienced backup defensive end. Hargrove, however, will miss the first four games of the regular season for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.
Washington linebacker Marcus Washington will miss at least a week with a dislocated elbow, while quarterback Jason Campbell is day-to-day after an MRI confirmed the initial diagnosis of a bruised left knee.
Both players were injured in the Redskins’ 12-10 preseason loss to Pittsburgh Saturday night.
Minnesota worked out free agent wide receiver Robert Ferguson, who was released by Green Bay last week.
